Bio

Dr. Gustavo A. Barboza is a Full Professor and the Jack and Vada Reynolds Endowed Chair of International Business at the College of Business, Loyola University New Orleans. Dr. Barboza holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics (1997) from Oklahoma State University. Dr. Barboza was born in Costa Rica and holds US citizen as well. He is fluent in Spanish, English and Italian (Advanced). In his career he has published numerous peer reviewed articles in very prestigious journals, such as Journal of Business Ethics, British Food Journal, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research, Review of Development Economics, Social Responsibility Journal, Economic Notes, Journal of Asian Economics, Contemporary Economic Policy, among others. His research conducts applied and theoretical research with a distinctive international perspective. His current research interests include topics relating to:

  • international business and economic growth;
  • geography and entrepreneurship;
  • financial education and financial literacy;
  • present-biased preferences and procrastination;
  • issues on the field of Micro Credit with particular emphasis on the role of asymmetric information in the theory of group formation and efficient allocation of financial resources;
  • time series analysis and commodity prices,
  • commodity price variability and climate change; and
  • issues relating to Corporate Social Responsibility and horizontal differentiation business strategies with endogenous consumers’ preferences.
